The most recent version of the Upper Swan Local Area Plan was adopted in December 2023 and is planned to be reviewed in 2029.

The plan highlights the priorities of the community identified during the consultation period. It also creates a roadmap for the City to plan for and deliver outcomes that meet the aspirations and needs of the community

Area wide updates 2025

Priority 4

New bushfire planning policies were released and implemented in November 2024 (State Planning Policy 3.7 Bushfire (SPP 3.7) and Planning for Bushfire Guidelines), which improve how we address planning in bushfire areas.

A key policy for clay extraction is being reviewed (Extractive Industry Policy LPP - E11.2 - Clay Extraction).

The City will soon advertise a tree retention policy (Draft Tree Protection and Management Local Planning Policy (POL-LP-1.18)) that applies to non-rural lands and aims to protect and maintain tree canopy cover.
