What we heard
Community members told us they would like to see an artwork that:
- Celebrates local wildlife
- Creates a welcoming space for families and community connection
- Is contemporary, distinctive and enhances the surrounding environment
These insights were used to guide the commissioning process and inform the artist’s design approach.
Project outcome
Following the engagement process, Jina Lee Sculptures was selected as the successful artist for the Bourke View Park public art project. The sculpture of a Thick-Tailed Gecko was installed mid 2025.
Thank you again to everyone who contributed ideas and helped shape this project for the local community.
'Earthbound Echo' by Jina Lee Sculpture
The sculpture Earthbound Echo is a hand-carved stone representation of the native Thick-Tailed Gecko, with only its head, one hand and tail visible above ground, symbolizing its deep connection to the earth.
Crafted from marble with contrasting bands of colour, it serves as a visually striking focal point that invites children to play, climb and explore its form within the Bourke View Park Playspace.
