Thank you to everyone who provided feedback - submissions have now closed.
Based on feedback received, we have been able to make some changes to the proposed plans for each precinct but there are some elements that we couldn't change. These are explained below.
Precinct one: North of Morrison Road
What we were able to change:
Based on your feedback, we’ve increased on-street parking from two hours to three hours to allow some more flexibility.
We’ve added some more no-parking zones in areas where safety was a concern.
We’re investigating residential parking permits to better support longer-term parking needs.
What we couldn’t change:
There were some requests not to introduce changes altogether, but this wasn’t possible.
More and more people who work in the Midland Square area are using nearby streets to park. This reduces access for residents and creates safety concerns.
We need to ensure safe and fair access for our community, and these changes are necessary to achieve this.
Precinct five: North of the railway line
What we were able to change:
Based on your feedback, we’ve increased on-street parking from two hours to three hours. Many of you told us two hours wasn’t enough time for appointments, or residents hosting visitors or support workers.
We’re investigating residential parking permits to better support longer-term parking needs.
What we couldn’t change:
We couldn’t create an area for free all-day parking for workers because parking is limited and demand is already high, particularly from train commuters and hospital staff.

Precinct six: Workshops

Background information
The City has prepared a draft Midland Parking Plan in response to community concerns and to address the growing pressures on existing on-street parking due to the amount of development occurring within the Midland CBD. The draft Midland Parking Plan has split the Midland CBD area into six precincts. With the imminent opening of the new train station, the City is starting with precincts 1, 5 and 6.
The plan aims to:
- Ensure
parking is available and accessible for residents, businesses, visitors,
customers, clients, and patients accessing the precinct areas.
- Reduce
safety issues created by illegal and dangerous parking, road congestion,
and driver frustration.
- Encourage
commuters to use the designated multi-story train station parking.
- Encourage
better utilisation of all day off street parking facilities for all day
parking requirements.
- Support
a fair and effective approach to managing parking in the town centre.
Community, business and visitors were invited to provide feedback on the proposed parking
changes and how these changes may impact you and your community. The following information was provided for each precinct along with some frequently asked questions to assist you in preparing your comments on the plan.
