The City of Swan is currently preparing the new Malaga Local Area Plan (LAP).

What’s next?

Council will consider the Malaga Local Area Plan at a future meeting (currently scheduled for August 2025), after which the full plan will be published on the City’s website. The City will then work to address the communities priorities for the next five years, providing an update annually to track our progress.

Community consultation ran from February 3 to March 16, 2025, with in person events and pop-ups as well as a social media campaign. The consultation attracted:

436 survey responses; and

177 individual comments


Community Priorities

  • Parking

    Increase available parking, and improve management of on-street and off-street parking areas.

  • Road quality and traffic

    Improving road conditions through increased monitoring and ensuring road suitability to accommodate various transport needs.

  • Supporting future business growth

    Increase support for businesses by encouraging services for workers and surrounding residents (e.g. lunch bar, retail, restaurants, etc.)

  • Natural environment

    Increase tree canopy cover and enhance the protection of natural environment assets.

  • Connectivity

    Improving connectivity via public transport, and the cycle and pedestrian networks.
