Area wide updates 2025

Priority 4

The City of Swan is currently working with eight Gidgegannup-based environmental volunteer groups to improve and restore bushland and waterway areas. The eight groups include Friends of Reserve 2145, which provides guided bushwalks, litter removal and tree planting, and the Susannah Brook Catchment Group which holds weeding and planting programs.

Large-scale revegetation planting by the City in 2024 involved the planting of over 9,094 seedlings throughout the Gidgegannup area.

Priority 6

The City held various bushfire awareness initiatives in Gidgegannup in addition to bushfire mitigation work. Initiatives this year included:

  • A bushfire awareness stand at the Gidgegannup show and Small Farm Field Day, focusing on property preparation and personal bushfire planning
  • A letter to all property owners explaining their obligation in preparing their property to the requirements of the City’s fire hazard reduction notice
  • Roadside variable message signs advertising property fire safety inspections
  • Engagement with owners of major properties, including south of the townsite with the aim of developing plans for hazard reduction burns

Gidgegannup is also included in the City’s broad educational social posts which have been ongoing throughout spring and summer.

New firefighting assets including fire access tracks, fire tanks and other firefighting infrastructures are being added to various areas in Gidgegannup, in addition to the renewal of existing firefighting assets that are in poor condition.

Priority 7

The City delivered one on one business consultations for Gidgegannup businesses in conjunction with the Small Business Development Corporations business advisors. These business support sessions enabled local businesses to discuss the pain points they were experiencing. Business advisors then directed businesses to further support via referrals.

The Perth Hills Tourism Alliance (PHTA) continued to market and promote Gidgegannup tourism businesses and events through its Experience Perth Hills website and social media. Through strong marketing initiatives, engaging content, and targeted promotion, the City continues to showcase the unique offerings of our region to local, national, and international audiences.

  • Launched the Perth Hills visitor guide and the Experience Perth Hills website. These resources are invaluable in positioning the Perth hills as a must-visit destination.
  • Increased digital reach: A 12 per cent increase in social media engagement signifies our online presence and strengthening connections with visitors
  • The PHTA won gold at the 2024 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards for excellence in local government tourism.

Ongoing support for businesses as per the City of Swan’s endorsed Business Support and Enhancement Plan includes access to mentoring programs, support for free Digital Action Plans, crime prevention initiatives, and opportunities to take part in the Accessible Swan business initiative.
