The City of Swan is planning a new mural for the basketball half court at the Ellenbrook Youth Centre. The mural will create a vibrant, welcoming space for young people and the wider community.

We are asking for feedback for the community to help shape the artist brief. The selected artist will use this input when developing their design concept.

The basketball half court is a well-used space for young people to hang out, play and connect. The mural will help make it a more creative and engaging place that reflects Ellenbrook’s local identity.

A professional artist will be appointed by the City of Swan. Community feedback will help shape the artist brief including the themes, colours and ideas that could inspire the final design.

The mural is expected to be designed and painted in early 2026, once the artist has been appointed and the design approved.

No. The paint being used requires specialised safety equipment and must be applied by the professional artist. However, community ideas will influence the design that the artist creates.

Budget set aside to deliver the proposed mural is $45,000.

This engagement is open to everyone, especially people who use the basketball half court or visit the Youth Centre. Because the mural will be located at the Youth Centre, young people are expected to engage most with the artwork.

Being that the basketball half court is open for community use the broader Ellenbrook community are also encouraged to share their feedback.

Community can share ideas through our short online survey. Youth participating in programming at the centre will also be directly invited to participate in person.
