The City has received a development application for a carport for Lot 1 (No.5) Warde Street, Midland.


The carport is proposed to be attached to the eastern side of the house and will measure 5.4 metres in width and 9 metres in length. The carport cover will extend to within 0.5 metres of the property boundary, although the columns will be on the boundary itself in accordance with the attached plans. The carport height will be 2.95 metres.


In accordance with the above, the carport will extend into the side setback area for the eastern lot boundary in variation to the requirements of the Residential Design Codes - 5.1.3 Lot Boundary Setbacks:


  • The proposal side setback of 0.5 metres against the eastern boundary varies the 1 metre setback that is ordinarily required under the Residential Design Codes.


The City is therefore conducting alternative merit-based assessments against the design principles due to the above variations and seeks feedback from affected landowners.
