The City is seeking comments on a proposed above ground swimming pool, and modifications to the existing gate at Lot 3 (No.62) East Street, Guildford.

Details of the proposal include:

  • Stainless steel plunge pool with height up to 1.42m
  • Access stairs and a deck to the top of the pool
  • Metal sheeting on existing access gate from Turton Street (5.5m x 1.2m)

The swimming pool deck area proposes the following variation to the Residential Design Codes (R-codes):

  • Clause 5.4.1 Visual Privacy: the pool deck area is considered an outdoor active habitable space with a ground floor level of more than 0.5m, and is therefore required to be setback off the boundary by 7.5m. The application proposes a 2.1m setback.

To address potential visual privacy impacts associated with the reduced setback, the applicant has advised that they would be willing to install privacy screening along the boundary adjoining No. 66 East Street, but wholly within their lot. The proposed screen would have an overall height of 3.25m, extending 1.6m above the deck floor level.
