The City has received an application for additions to an existing approved ‘Educational Establishment’ (Helena River Steiner School Community Association) at Lot 13 Stirling Crescent, Hazelmere. The lot is zoned ‘Urban’ under the Metropolitan Region Scheme and ‘Special Use Zone 15’ under the City’s Local Planning Scheme No.17.

Development approval was issued by Council at its meeting held 22 September 2021 for the proposed ‘Educational Establishment’ (DA-518/2021). The intended ultimate capacity of the school considered as part of the original application was to accommodate 18 Staff and 210 students.

The school is to be constructed in a staged approach with ‘Stage 2’ works subject of this application. The school currently operates with 25 students and with the proposed works will accommodate up to 90 students.

Key details of the subject proposal as shown on the submitted plans are as follows:

  • 1 Office building for use as a meeting space/ office for Parents and Community;
  • 3 classrooms;
  • Carpark with 19 car bays; and
  • Vehicle access is from existing crossovers to Stirling Crescent with an additional egress point to be constructed.

It should be noted there are no changes proposed to the approved operations of the school and the proposal does not seek to increase traffic or noise with student and staff numbers remaining below the ultimate approved capacity of the school.
