The City of Swan is exploring options to boost road safety at the intersection of Amazon Drive and Beechboro Road North in Beechboro. After several serious accidents in recent years, this review aims to address key safety concerns, including reducing conflicts between vehicles, providing safe access and traffic flow into and from Amazon Drive and improving pedestrian safety and road visibility.

We understand that changes to local infrastructure impacts residents and businesses. This project aims to reduce crash risks in the area, and we want to ensure the proposed upgrades consider the needs of those who use the intersection regularly.

Project Background

In the past five years, there have been 14 reported crashes:

  • Zero fatal
  • Two hospital
  • Two medical
  • Seven property damage only (PDO) major
  • Three PDO major.

Four were right-angle crashes and eight were right-turn-through crashes, with two occurring at night.

The right-turn-through collisions involved vehicles travelling south on Beechboro Road North turning right into Amazon Drive, colliding with southbound traffic.

The right-angle collisions involved traffic exiting Amazon Drive colliding with both north and southbound traffic on Beechboro Road.

A shopping centre is located on the west side of Beechboro Road North, southwest of the intersection.
