Construction has now commenced!
In 2024, the City of Swan received feedback from residents of Ballajura on a proposed Safe Active Street.
The street provides an east-west connection between the existing Tonkin Highway pedestrian shared path and Ballajura Central Shopping Centre.
In addition, it will tie into the Tonkin Highway footbridge, providing, Ballajura residents with better pedestrian/cycle access to the Ballajura Train Station.
We are pleased to announce that construction started on Monday, March 30, 2026 and will be completed within three months.
Please note the works may be extended in the event of severe weather, contractor availability or unforeseen conditions.

This project will deliver a safer, more active street for the community by including the following elements:
• Construction of new concrete footpath on Torndirrup Place, Gilroyd Loop and Premier Place
• Construction of new raised platforms at the intersections of:
- Hamelin Drive and Watheroo Court
- Watheroo Court and Nornalup Close
- Giralia Parkway and Torndirrup Place
- Mandila Parade (at Gilroyd Loop)
- Hamelin Drive (at Premier Place)
• Upgrade to the existing path through Hamelin Park
• Various drainage upgrades.
